During the course of our engagement to assist a company to become C-TPAT certified, we can often clarify the full extent of the overseas supply chain. Agents are sometimes used and we find out who stuffs and seals containers, who is used to transport merchandise to the freight forwarder - how goods move from manufacturer to the port - and how the shipping of the packages and containers to the USA is accomplished. We make sure that all entities in the chain submit information that clearly shows the security that exists within their organizations.
We have found that our methodology vastly improves the visibility of the supply chain to the importer, and also improves the security in place at all points along the way. Importers become much more aware about how their merchandise is handled from final manufacture to delivery here in the USA. The result is that the importer is more in control. During our preparation process that results in submitting the application for Certified Partnership to CBP, we work with importers to also enhance their stateside security procedures and security training.
